Los Angeles [US]: California Governor Gavin Newsom strongly criticized President Donald Trump on X (formerly Twitter), accusing him of inciting unrest by sending federal troops to Los Angeles without local approval. Newsom stated that local law enforcement did not request assistance, but Trump sent troops anyway, aiming to create chaos. He claimed that Trump’s actions had destabilized the city and called for additional law enforcement to restore order, describing the deployment as “purposefully inflammatory” and an undermining of state authority, comparing it to dictatorship.
The deployment of California National Guard troops came amid rising protests in Los Angeles over Trump’s immigration enforcement actions, including ICE raids targeting undocumented immigrants. Tensions escalated as federal agents clashed with protesters, and Trump accused the city of being “invaded” by illegal aliens and criminals, claiming that riots were hampering deportation efforts. He ordered officials to coordinate efforts to “liberate” Los Angeles from what he called a “Migrant Invasion” and vowed to restore order, asserting that illegal immigrants would be expelled and the city “set free.” The protests followed ICE arrests of dozens of undocumented individuals, prompting Trump to send 2,000 National Guard troops to help control the unrest.
