Canadian MP Arya punished for ‘closeness’ to India, denied ticket for upcoming election

The news of his ticket being cancelled to Canada is being linked to his ties with India.

Chandra Arya, an Indian-origin MP from the Liberal Party of Canada, has been denied a ticket by the party for the upcoming elections. Chandra Arya has been contesting from the Ottawa Nepean constituency for the last three elections. The news of his ticket being cancelled to Canada is being linked to his ties with India. As Chandra Arya has been outspoken about his party’s separatist ties.

Canadian newspaper, Globe and Mail wrote that the main reason for Arya’s ticket was his ties with India. Last year, when relations between India and Canada were tense, Arya visited India without informing the Canadian government. During this visit in August last year, Arya also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However, there has been no response from the Liberal Party or Chandra Arya as to why he was barred from contesting the elections.

Citing sources, the report said that the Canadian Security Service had informed the government about Arya’s close ties with the Indian government, including the Indian embassy in Ottawa.

MP Arya has completely denied all these allegations. He said in his statement that as a member of parliament, I have had contact with many diplomats and heads of government in Canada and internationally. I have never asked the government for permission to do so, nor have I needed it.

It is worth noting that Marco Carney became the prime minister of Canada after the resignation of former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Carney had announced a general election months ago. On April 28, Canadians will vote for their next government. Earlier last week, MP Arya posted a letter issued to him by the Liberal Party, in which he wrote that he had been informed that the party had decided to reject his nomination.
