Toronto: Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has announced that the country will go for a general election on April 28. He said on Sunday that he wants a strong mandate to deal with US President Donald Trump.
The Canadian PM said- Tariff war with America is one of the biggest threats to us. They want to break us so that America becomes our master, but we will not let this happen.
Carney said there is still a lot to be done to secure Canada. He also talked about plans to help farmers and businesses affected by the tariff war.
Mark Carney has taken oath as the Prime Minister of Canada just 10 days ago. He won the election for the leader of the Liberal Party on February 9. Carney got 85.9% votes.
Action is needed to deal with Trump’s tariffs
Carney said that after taking oath as PM, he signed a new national defense agreement with Australia, worked to strengthen relations with France and Britain, and started discussions on a new trade agreement with the European Union.
The Canadian PM said that today’s youth have to work harder, but still they face problems in paying rent and saving for their children.
He said, I knew our country needed to take action to fight the Americans, deal with Trump’s tariffs and fix Canada’s economy.
Mark Carney is a banker and economist
Mark Carney is an economist and former central banker. Carney was elected Governor of the Bank of Canada in 2008. Due to the steps he took to pull Canada out of recession, the Bank of England offered him to become the Governor in 2013.
In the 300-year history of the Bank of England, he was the first non-British citizen to receive this responsibility. He remained associated with it till 2020. The decisions taken during Brexit made him famous in Britain.
