WASHINGTON: A day after allegations by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) that certain Indian diplomats were involved in the assassination of a Sikh separatist, Canadian Sikh leader Jagmeet Singh has called for a ban on the RSS and sanctions against Indian diplomats. Singh, who leads the New Democratic Party (NDP), which has previously supported Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government, emphasized the need for immediate action in light of the serious nature of the allegations.

India has refuted these claims, accusing Canada of harboring terrorist organizations and encouraging separatist movements. Singh, known for his pro-Khalistan views, sought an emergency meeting with the Public Security Committee to explore further protective measures for Canadians.

He stressed the importance of responding to the RCMP’s warnings regarding safety, asserting that all necessary steps must be taken to safeguard both the populace and democracy in Canada. Singh reiterated his commitment to advocating for sanctions against Indian diplomats and banning the RSS, labeling it a violent organization that operates beyond India’s borders.

In response to inquiries about being personally targeted, Singh clarified that the issue transcends individual concerns, focusing instead on the broader risk posed to all Canadians by potential violence linked to diplomatic activity. He underscored the urgency of addressing such dangers, which could threaten entire communities.

Singh also urged collaboration with allies, particularly the United States, to apply pressure on India and called for accountability from the Indian government. He stressed the importance of unity among Canadian leaders in condemning the actions of Prime Minister Modi’s government to prioritize the safety of Canadians.
