CARICOM leaders thank PM Modi for putting concerns of their nations on world’s agenda as voice of Global South

Georgetown: Leaders of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) have thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India for his role as a voice for the Global South, highlighting the concerns of Caribbean nations on the global stage. During the second India-CARICOM Summit on Wednesday, PM Modi reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the region, especially as it faces.

Georgetown: Leaders of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) have thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India for his role as a voice for the Global South, highlighting the concerns of Caribbean nations on the global stage. During the second India-CARICOM Summit on Wednesday, PM Modi reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the region, especially as it faces new global challenges.

CARICOM Chairman Dickon Mitchell, who is also Grenada’s Prime Minister, expressed heartfelt appreciation on behalf of CARICOM citizens for India’s proactive engagement in championing the ideals of the Global South. He praised PM Modi’s dedication to sustainable development in the Caribbean, particularly in today’s complex global landscape.

Mitchell noted India’s generous donation of COVID-19 vaccines to CARICOM countries, emphasizing that it showcased India’s solidarity during a time of crisis. He commended PM Modi’s visionary leadership for strengthening India-CARICOM ties and highlighted India’s rapid economic growth.

He mentioned the broad collaboration between India and CARICOM across various sectors, including trade, technology, healthcare, education, and climate resilience, asserting that India’s expertise in agriculture, energy, health, and ICT can significantly benefit the region.

Guyana’s President Mohamed Irfaan Ali, who hosted the summit, also acknowledged PM Modi’s influential role in the international community, stating that India has emerged as a leading voice for the Global South. He pointed out that India’s leadership in the G20 and BRICS, along with PM Modi’s advocacy for developing nations, has brought the issues of small island developing states in the Caribbean to the forefront of global discussions.

Ali concluded by expressing gratitude for India’s generous support during the pandemic, particularly the delivery of vaccines to the region.
