Khartoum: The death toll from a drone attack by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on a market in El Fasher, western Sudan, has risen to 38, according to a local non-governmental organization. Earlier reports from the state news agency SUNA indicated that the attack in the Awlad Al-Reef neighborhood resulted in over 15 fatalities and numerous injuries.

The Coordination of Resistance Committees in El Fasher confirmed the updated toll, calling the incident a “massacre.” The RSF has yet to respond to the attack.

Since fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF began in mid-April 2023, more than 28,700 people have been killed and over 14 million displaced, according to international reports.

In a related incident on December 13, at least 45 civilians were killed and 28 others injured due to artillery shelling by the RSF targeting residential neighborhoods and displacement camps in western Sudan. The Sudanese Armed Forces reported that the shelling primarily affected El Fasher city, the Zamzam displacement camp, and the Abu Shouk camp.
