New York: Five Indian-origin men have been arrested and charged with the murder of an Indian man whose body was found in a New Jersey forest. Officials reported that the last suspect, Sandeep Kumar, was taken into custody on Friday.

The victim, Kuldeep Kumar, was discovered with gunshot wounds in the Greenwood Wildlife Management Area on December 14. His family had reported him missing on October 26, but it was nearly two months before his remains were found and reported to the prosecutor’s Major Crimes Unit.

The suspected murder took place around October 22, and the body was found in an advanced state of decomposition. The FBI assisted in identifying the victim, according to the prosecutor’s office.

The investigation implicated five individuals: Sourav Kumar (23), Guarav Singh (27), Nirmal Singh (30), and Gurdeep Singh (22), all from Greenwood, Indiana, and Sandeep Kumar (34) from Ozone Park, New York.

The men from Indiana were apprehended by the FBI, the prosecutor’s detective, and Indiana police on December 20 without any incidents. They are currently being held in an Indiana jail and await extradition to New Jersey.

In the U.S., when a suspect is arrested in a different state, prosecutors must undergo an extradition process in court, allowing the arrested individual to contest the extradition.
