A severe flood caused by monsoon rains in Nepal resulted in the loss of 18 lives and swept away the main bridge linking Nepal to China. The heavy rainfall in China on Monday night led to the flooding of the Bhotekoshi River in Nepal, causing significant destruction.
At around 3:15 am on Tuesday, the vital Miteri Bridge in Rasuwa district, located 120 km northeast of Kathmandu, was washed away by the floodwaters. So far, 18 people are reported missing, including six Chinese nationals.
Rescue operations have managed to save 11 individuals, including two police officers, with the joint efforts of Nepal Army, Armed Police Force, and Nepal Police. Arjun Paudel, the chief district officer of Rasuwa, stated that the flood caused extensive damage in the area, prompting authorities to advise residents living downstream to relocate to safer places.
The flood also destroyed several houses and five electric vehicles imported from China, further highlighting the extent of the damage caused by the disaster.
