Former Indian cricketer Lalchand Rajput has been appointed as the head coach of the United Arab Emirates.

Former Indian cricketer Lalchand Rajput has been appointed as the new head coach of the UAE men's national team for a three-year tenure.

New Delhi : Former Indian cricketer Lalchand Rajput has been appointed as the new head coach of the UAE men’s national team for a three-year tenure.

Rajput, who played two Tests and four ODIs for India between 1985 and 1987, takes over from interim head coach Mudassar Nazar.

Rajput, 62, was the manager of the Indian team captained by MS Dhoni that won the T20 series of the first men. World Cup in South Africa in 2007 and was the head coach of Mumbai Indians in the inaugural Indian Premier League (IPL) series in 2008.

Rajput also served as Zimbabwe’s head coach from 2018 to 2022.

He said “I would like to thank the Emirates Cricket Board for appointing me to this exciting role. The UAE has emerged as one of the stronger Associate members in recent years, with players performing well in both ODIs and T20Is. The current set is exceptionally talented and I look forward to working with them and using their cricketing skills”.

His first assignment as the new UAE head coach is the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 ODI tri-series co-hosted by Scotland and Canada.

The tri-series begins. on February 28, followed by the United Arab Emirates against Scotland in three T20Is next month. Last year, UAE failed to qualify for the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup after losing to Nepal in the semi-finals of the Asia Pacific Qualifier.
