India Supports Nepal’s Reconstruction Efforts with First Shipment of Steel Bridge Components

KATHMANDU: India has reiterated its commitment to supporting Nepal by delivering the first shipment of components for ten prefabricated steel bridges, aimed at restoring road connectivity disrupted by recent catastrophic floods and landslides. The handover was conducted by Devi Sahai Meena, Consul General of India in Birgunj, to Dinesh Sagar Bhusal, the Chief District Officer.

KATHMANDU: India has reiterated its commitment to supporting Nepal by delivering the first shipment of components for ten prefabricated steel bridges, aimed at restoring road connectivity disrupted by recent catastrophic floods and landslides.

The handover was conducted by Devi Sahai Meena, Consul General of India in Birgunj, to Dinesh Sagar Bhusal, the Chief District Officer of Parsa. Additional shipments of the prefabricated bridge components are set to arrive in the coming days.

In a press release, the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu stated, “The first consignment of components for ten prefabricated steel bridges has been handed over today by the Indian Government to the Government of Nepal. These bridges, requested by the Nepalese Government, are intended to aid in the nation’s reconstruction efforts and restore road connectivity compromised by the recent disasters. The total cost of the bridges exceeds NPR 38 crores and is being provided as a grant from the Government of India.”

The Embassy also announced on X (formerly Twitter) that India will continue to offer support and assistance to Nepal as required. “The first consignment of components for 10 prefabricated bridges has been supplied to Nepal to help restore road connectivity disrupted by recent floods and landslides. The bridges, costing more than NPR 38 crores, are being provided as a grant to aid the Nepalese Government in its reconstruction initiatives.”

Moreover, the Embassy indicated that more consignments are on their way and will be delivered to the Nepalese Government soon, reaffirming India’s ongoing commitment to support Nepal as needed.

In a further demonstration of aid, India has provided over 25 tonnes of humanitarian assistance in the past two days. This aid includes essential hygiene supplies, medicines, life jackets, sleeping mats, food items, inflatable rubber boats, tarpaulins, sleeping bags, blankets, chlorine tablets, and bottled water to help families affected by the floods and landslides in Nepal.

The Government of India remains dedicated to offering all necessary assistance to the Nepalese Government and its people according to their needs for relief and reconstruction efforts.
