New Delhi: The deputy foreign Minister of Iran Dr Takht Ravanchi and Maldives Foreign Minister is set to visit India on Thursday to discuss the key issues between India and their countries. Their visits to India will be important for the country which aims to increase bilateral trade in both energy and non-energy sectors, improving connectivity and tourism, regional and international security.
A senior official from Iran said that they are extended neighbors and there is a lot of commonality. We can complement each other on many issues including international and regional security.
The Iranian senior official said that Iran looks ahead to enhance ties with India in non-energy sectors like agriculture and tourism. He also said that the Indian government should be more forthcoming in issuing visas to Iranian tourists, as Iranians visit other neighboring countries and Europe for vacations and have not been coming to India.
“Connectivity is one issue like Chahbahar port has brought India and Iran closer, It is a meeting point of Iran, central Asia and Europe, it is a very strategic route. We have been doing good things for the development of Chabahar,” the senior official said.
Iran is also very keen to increase cooperation on Chahbahar port which is gateway to central Asia and Europe.
Apart from the deputy foreign Minister of Iran Dr Takht Ravanchi Iranian Foreign Minister Khaleel will also visit India this evening. Khaleel was appointed as Maldives Minister of Foreign Affairs on September 30.
In the past, he has acknowledged that the “significant contribution” to his tourist-dependent country’s fast recovery from the Covid pandemic was from India.
In October, Khaleel also accompanied Muizzu on the “landmark” five-day State visit – the first by the Maldivian President since assuming office in November 2023.
The visit is exepected to “insightful discussions” and deepened partnership, marking yet another milestone in the enduring friendship between Maldives and India.
Iran also believes that there should be strong cooperation to fight the menace of terrorism.
Senior Iranian official, while speaking to the media, said that Iran has a fragile neighbourhood; with the developments happening in Syria, Lebanon, and Yemen, nobody can predict what will happen to the future of West Asia.
