Tel Aviv [Israel]: The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas continues to bring unimaginable sorrow, with the nation grieving over the loss of loved ones. On Friday, Israel was particularly shaken by the return of the bodies of the Bibas brothers, Ariel (4 years old) and Kfir (10 months old), who had been taken hostage.
In a poignant display of mourning, Israelis donned orange, a color chosen to symbolize the bright red hair of the Bibas children. However, the situation grew more distressing when it was revealed that Hamas had not returned the body of the boys’ mother, Shiri Bibas, instead sending back the remains of a Gazan woman. Hamas later claimed this was due to a mix-up during an Israeli airstrike, as reported by the Times of Israel.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced that forensic reports indicated the Bibas brothers were murdered by Hamas with “bare hands” shortly after their capture in Gaza. RAdm. Daniel Hagari stated that the terrorists killed the boys in “cold blood” and attempted to conceal their heinous actions afterward.
In a show of solidarity, the Israeli Embassy in Cyprus illuminated its building in orange to honor the Bibas family and all victims of terrorism. Rotem Segev, the Deputy Ambassador, shared a message on X, expressing remembrance for the murdered children and all victims of Hamas violence. Similarly, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of North Macedonia lit their building in orange to demonstrate their support for the Bibas family and reaffirm their commitment to peace and the safe return of hostages. Parts of Belgrade, Serbia’s capital, also participated in this gesture of solidarity by lighting up in orange.
