Tel Aviv [Israel]: According to reports, Israeli fighter jets attacked an army base in Zanjan, a city about 200 miles north of Tehran in Iran. The strike, reported by Al Jazeera citing the UK-based outlet Iran International, resulted in considerable damage, including a large fire and significant smoke. The Israeli Air Force posted a video on X, stating, “The Air Force continues to target threats within Iranian territory.”
Earlier, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Nadav Shoshani, emphasized that Israel’s operations are precise and aimed at eliminating terrorist threats. He accused Iran of firing missiles at civilian populations, highlighting the difference in tactics: while Israel conducts targeted operations, Iran is said to indiscriminately target civilians. Shoshani urged the international community to recognize that the issue is not just Israel’s alone, condemning Iran’s missile attacks on Israeli homes and families. He warned that silence from the global community equates to complicity.
Following Israel’s “pre-emptive” strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, the IDF declared that Iran is nearing the capability to produce a nuclear weapon, which poses an existential threat to Israel and the wider world. Consequently, Israel stated it must act in self-defense and will continue to do so wherever necessary. Iran retaliated by launching drone and missile attacks on Tel Aviv, prompting Israel to conduct further counterstrikes.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baqaei, accused the US of backing Israel’s actions, asserting that U.S. support gave Israel the green light for its attack. Baqaei criticized recent US negotiations with Tehran over its nuclear program, claiming that the US’s stance undermines diplomatic efforts and allows Israel to operate militarily on Iranian territory.
