Canberra: WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange was released from jail on Monday. Assange was lodged in London’s Belmarsh high-security prison since 2019.

He was arrested from the Ecuadorian embassy because Assange had leaked confidential US documents, which was considered a crime of espionage. The United States even wanted Assange’s extradition and also sentenced him to death in this case.

But after spending 5 years in jail, Assange has now been released from jail. Assange has also been released from the Federal Court in Saipan, which is considered a US territory, today.

Assange pleaded guilty in a case of confidential documents and espionage in the Saipan court. He has already served a 5-year prison sentence and will not have to go to jail again.

Assange released from British jail after 5 years

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, who was jailed on charges of spying on America, was released from London jail on Tuesday (25 June) after 5 years. He has admitted to spying under an agreement with the US government.

According to US District Court documents, 52-year-old Assange has made an agreement with the US. Under this, he will appear in the US’s Saipan Court on Wednesday. Here he will accept the charge of conspiring to obtain US intelligence documents.

After the agreement with the US, he was released from Britain’s high-security prison Belmarsh on Monday. From here he left directly for his country Australia.
