Kuwait Fire Tragedy: 10 Indians among 41 killed after fire breaks out in building

Major General Eid Rasheed Hamad told the news agency that many migrant workers live in this building.

In a horrific incident, fire broke out in a building in Kuwait’s Mangaf city claiming lives of 41 people. Reportedly among those who died, at least 10 of them are Indians out of which 5 are from Kerala. The fire mishap has left more than 50 people injured in the accident. According to news agency Reuters, the accident occurred around 6 am in Kuwait which is equivalent to 9 am in IST.

The fire that started early in the morning spread rapidly throughout the building. Many people remained trapped inside the building. The cause of the fire is not yet known. Major General Eid Rasheed Hamad told the news agency that many migrant workers live in this building.

Foreign Minister Dr S Jaishankar has also taken note of the incident. In a post on X, he said, “Deeply shocked by the news of the fire incident in Kuwait city. There are reportedly over 40 deaths and over 50 have been hospitalized. Our Ambassador has gone to the camp. We are awaiting further information. Deepest condolences to the families of those who tragically lost their lives. Wish early and full recovery to those who have been injured. Our Embassy will render the fullest assistance to all concerned in this regard.”

Indian Embassy in Kuwait has released a helpline number. In post on X, it said, “In connection with the tragic fire-accident involving Indian workers today, Embassy has put in place an emergency helpline number: +965-65505246. All concerned are requested to connect over this helpline for updates. Embassy remains committed to render all possible assistance.”

Ambassador of India to Kuwait, Adarsh Swaika also visited the tragic fire mishap site in order to ascertain the situation. He also visited the hospital where nearly 30 injured workers are undergoing treatment.
