Ottawa: In a major blow to Justin Trudeau, Canada’s Deputy PM, and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland resigned from her post on Monday. Chrystia posted on social media that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had asked her to leave the post of Finance Minister and take charge of another ministry last Friday.
Angry with this, Chrystia has decided to resign from the cabinet. She wrote that for some time now, Trudeau and she were not able to agree on decisions. Chrystia has long been considered Trudeau’s most influential and loyal minister.
Recently, Chrystia had disagreed with Trudeau’s decision to give Rs 15,000 to citizens for free. She said that Canada is facing the threat of tariffs on exports to the US. In such a situation, spending more should be avoided.
Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland was also the chairperson of the Cabinet Committee on US relations. This committee works to maintain better relations with the US and resolve matters. Chrystia was scheduled to give a statement yesterday regarding the tariff threat by the newly elected US President Donald Trump.
Trump has threatened Canada and Mexico that if they do not stop the smuggling of migrants and drugs, then the US will impose a 25% tariff on them. In her statement, Cristia was going to give information about how Canada can be saved from tariffs.
Transport Minister Anita Anand has also expressed surprise at Cristia’s resignation. She said that this news is shocking. Minister Anand has currently refused to comment on this matter. He said that first he needs to understand the whole matter.
Pierre Poilievre, leader of Canada’s main opposition Conservative Party, said that Trudeau has lost control over the government. He is struggling to remain in power. Pierre said that the weakening of the country at the time of the American threat is very unfortunate.
Elections to be held in Canada next year

Current Prime Minister Trudeau said that he plans to lead the Liberal Party to contest the next election. However, many party leaders do not like Trudeau as a prime ministerial candidate.
