Washington: Mary Millben, an African-American singer and actress, recently described former President Donald Trump as “kind” after an incident at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) last week. She recounted how Trump delayed his speech to allow her to perform, despite the backstage team initially deciding to cut her act due to his early arrival. Millben expressed her appreciation for Trump’s “soft power” and his continued support for her career.

While preparing to sing at CPAC, Millben was informed that her performance would be canceled because Trump had arrived earlier than expected. Accepting the situation, she was ready to take her seat for his speech. However, Trump overheard the conversation and insisted to CPAC Chairman Matt Schlapp that she should sing before he took the stage.

In a post on X, Millben shared her experience, stating, “One word that comes to mind when people ask me about President @realDonaldTrump – kind.” She expressed how humbled and emotional she felt when Trump made the decision to delay his speech for her performance. Millben highlighted that she has performed for five consecutive U.S. Presidents and learned to be adaptable, but she was particularly touched by Trump’s gesture.

She expressed her gratitude, stating she would always remember Trump’s kindness, referring to it as his “soft power.” Millben noted that both Trump and former First Lady Melania Trump had supported her career, offering her opportunities during their time in the White House. She emphasized that despite the focus being on Trump at CPAC, he graciously made it about her first, allowing her to sing.

In a previous interview, Millben had voiced her strong support for Trump in his upcoming contest against Vice President Kamala Harris, expressing her hope for his victory while also acknowledging that her work is independent of political outcomes.
