Tehran, April 26: 516 people were injured in an explosion at Iran’s Bandar Abbas Port on Saturday. According to media reports, initial investigations have revealed that the accident occurred due to negligence in the storage of flammable materials at the site.
According to Iranian officials, the explosion occurred at the Sina Container Yard at Shahid Rajai Port, just outside Bandar Abbas. It houses transport containers and also oil and other petrochemical facilities.
Rescue workers have reached the accident site and are trying to evacuate people. Iranian media says that no energy infrastructure has been damaged due to the explosion.
Iran is unable to obtain the necessary equipment because of international sanctions, which is why industrial accidents occur frequently here.
Bandar Abbas Port is 1000 km away from Tehran
The National Iranian Petroleum Refining and Distribution Company issued a statement after the explosion, saying that the explosion did not affect oil facilities in the area. This port is 1000 km away from the Iranian capital, Tehran.

This explosion has happened at a time when Iranian officials are negotiating with American officials regarding a new nuclear deal.
