MEA reacts on report claiming ‘India’s ammunition entering Ukraine’, calls it ‘inaccurate and mischievous’

The Indian government has strongly objected to a Reuters report related to the sending of ammunition from India to Ukraine.

New Delhi: The Indian government has strongly objected to a Reuters report related to the sending of ammunition from India to Ukraine. The Indian Foreign Ministry has described it as wrong and mischievous.

Responding to questions on the report, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on Thursday, ‘We have seen the Reuters report. It is speculative and misleading. It talks about violation of rules, while there is nothing like that.’

The official spokesperson of MEA said, “We have seen the Reuters report. It is speculative and misleading. It implies violations by India, where none exist and, hence, is inaccurate and mischievous.”

The statement further said, “India has an impeccable track record of compliance with international obligations on the export of military and dual use items. India has been carrying out its defence exports taking into account its international obligations on non-proliferation and based on its own robust legal and regulatory framework, which includes a holistic assessment of relevant criteria, including end user obligations and certifications.”

Earlier, a Reuters report claimed that Ukraine was using India’s ammunition in the war against Russia. It said that India had sold these weapons to European countries, but now Ukraine is using them.

The report also claimed that despite Russia’s protest, India has not tried to stop it. It quoted 3 Indian officials and said that Russia complained about this to India on 2 occasions.

The report said that India’s ammunition is reaching Ukraine via Italy and the Czech Republic. Both these countries buy shells from India in large quantities. In the last one year, these two countries have sent India’s ammunition to Ukraine.
