Kathmandu: Amidst violent incidents in Nepal, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli resigned from his post. An army helicopter has taken him to a safe place. Soon after this, news came that President Ram Chandra Paudel has also resigned. However, this news was not correct. He has called the protesters for talks.
The situation in the capital Kathmandu remains extremely tense and the security forces seem to be unable to control the situation. Violent protests in the country have worsened the situation.
Protesters set fire to the house of former PM Jhalnath Khanal. His wife Rajyalakshmi Chitrakar was in the house. She suffered severe burn injuries. She was immediately rushed to Kirtipur Burn Hospital, where she died.
So far 22 people have been killed and more than 400 injured in clashes and arson in the capital Kathmandu and surrounding areas. Protesters set fire to the Parliament building and also attacked and vandalised and set fire to the personal residences of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, President Ram Chandra Paudel and Home Minister.
Angry youths barged into former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba’s house and beat him up, while Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel was chased and beaten near his home in Kathmandu. A video viral on social media shows a protester kicking him in the chest.
Gen-Z youth issued a letter and appealed not to vandalize
The Gen-Z youth protesting against the government in Nepal have released a letter. In this, they said that the government has been brought to its knees. We now appeal to the protesters to remain calm and not damage public property. The letter says that this country has now come under our leadership. Do not damage public property. PM Oli has resigned. We can create a Nepal with a secure future. The unity of all of us will lay the foundation for new changes.
