Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: According to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Pakistani security forces eliminated 30 terrorists during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the South Waziristan district on Monday. The operation targeted the Sararogha area following intelligence reports of terrorist activity.
The ISPR confirmed that the security forces “effectively engaged” the terrorists at their location, resulting in their deaths. Following the operation, sanitization efforts are ongoing to eliminate any remaining terrorists in the region. The ISPR also emphasized Pakistan’s determination to eradicate terrorism, noting that the sacrifices of security personnel reinforce their commitment.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif both praised the military’s actions, with the President asserting his commitment to completely eradicate the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) group, and affirming that operations against the TTP would persist until its total elimination. Prime Minister Sharif echoed this sentiment, stating that both the government and security forces are dedicated to ending terrorism in the country.
A report from the Islamabad-based Pak Institute for Peace Studies (PIPS) indicated that the number of terrorist attacks in 2024 has reached levels similar to those in 2014, despite terrorists not controlling specific territories as they once did. The report highlighted that over 95% of the attacks have occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, indicating a concerning security situation in these areas.
