Washington: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with US President Donald Trump at the White House in Washington, DC, to enhance the India-US bilateral partnership across various sectors. The Prime Minister’s Office shared on X that the discussions were productive, focusing on strengthening ties in multiple areas.
President Trump also posted photos from their meeting on X, highlighting the occasion. During their talks, they covered a range of topics, including trade, defense, technology, energy, security, and cultural exchanges, while also discussing regional and international developments of shared interest.
Trump expressed his long-standing friendship with PM Modi, stating it was a “great honor” to host him and emphasizing their strong relationship over the years. He mentioned that India would be purchasing significant amounts of US oil and gas, noting the abundance of resources available in the US. Trump underscored the importance of their discussions on trade and other matters.
Upon PM Modi’s arrival, Trump welcomed him warmly in the West Wing lobby, where they shared a hug. White House Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino shared a behind-the-scenes photo of the greeting on X. The Indian delegation included External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and Ambassador Vinay Mohan Kwatra, who joined PM Modi shortly after his arrival.
Before meeting Trump, PM Modi held bilateral discussions with various American leaders, including National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Indian-origin entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, and US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard. This visit marks PM Modi’s first trip to the US since Trump’s inauguration on January 20.
