Kabul: Afghan police set fire to more than 500 kilograms of illegal drugs in Kandahar province on Sunday, according to provincial police spokesman Assadullah Jamshid. The seized substances included 130 kg of opium poppy, 480 kg of methamphetamine, and 660 stimulant tablets, all collected over the past two months.
The official emphasized that police will continue to prevent the production, processing, and trafficking of illegal drugs.
In a related operation, Afghan security forces dismantled two drug manufacturing labs in Farah province’s Bakwa district, discovering over 580 kg of illicit drugs and detaining nine suspected smugglers, as reported by the Deputy Minister of Interior for Counter-Narcotics.
Additionally, on July 8, police in Wardak province intercepted a smuggling attempt involving 43 kg of opium-derived drugs and arrested two individuals involved in the traffick. The drugs were being moved from Balkh to Farah.
Police also launched efforts to destroy hashish farms in Badakhshan province. During these operations, authorities found 1,500 kg of opium poppy inside a tanker in Takhar province and arrested a drug smuggler attempting to transport the contraband.
