Balochistan: A protest rally was organized by the prominent Baloch human rights organization, the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), in Lasbela to address ongoing crackdowns and the repression faced by the Baloch people. Early this morning, participants gathered to protest against various issues impacting their community, including the suppression of protests and the oppression they endure.
The rally, led by the Baloch Solidarity Committee in the Lasbela region, aimed to oppose the crackdown on recent sit-ins and demand the release of detained activists. A diverse group, including youth, women, children, and the families of the missing persons, participated to raise awareness of their struggles.
In a subsequent announcement on X, BYC stated that it would hold a “peaceful resistance sit-in” today to protest the forced disappearances and arrests of political activists such as Mahrang Baloch, Bebigar Baloch, and Bebo Baloch. They emphasized that as long as state oppression persists and these leaders remain missing, the Baloch people will continue to resist.
The organization urged all sectors of society—activists, journalists, scholars, clerics, business individuals, and families—to participate fully, declaring that national unity against oppression is essential for survival. The sit-in is scheduled for noon at the Burari Bypass.
International voices, including Mary Lawlor, the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders, have condemned the detentions and treatment of Baloch activists. She expressed concern over the arrests of Mahrang Baloch and other human rights defenders following the crackdown on BYC protests in Quetta. The arrests have raised significant concerns regarding the Pakistani authorities’ response to dissent in Balochistan, with reports indicating that Mahrang Baloch was forcefully apprehended along with several others.
