Beirut: A drone strike by Israel in the al-Shaara area near Janta, located in Lebanon’s eastern Bekaa Valley, resulted in the deaths of six individuals, with two others injured.

Israeli warplanes have been reportedly conducting extensive mid-altitude flights over southern Lebanon. Additionally, the Israeli military executed a detonation operation in the village of Adaisseh in the eastern border region of southern Lebanon, according to the state-run National News Agency (NNA).

Amid rising tensions, several municipalities in western and central southern Lebanon have issued alerts to residents, journalists, and visitors regarding landmines left behind by Israeli forces, some of which have been modified into traps that pose risks to civilians, as per NNA reports.

Later, the Israeli military confirmed its air force targeted a Hezbollah site in the Bekaa Valley, claiming to have struck a “strategic weapons manufacturing and storage facility” linked to Hezbollah. The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) described this activity as a significant breach of the existing understanding between Israel and Lebanon.

Despite a ceasefire enacted in November 2024 that concluded a year-long conflict between Hamas and Israel, Israeli forces continue to conduct occasional strikes in Lebanon, citing violations of the ceasefire by Hezbollah.

The Lebanese government has consistently condemned these Israeli incursions. Following Israel’s failure to adhere to an initial withdrawal deadline from southern Lebanon, Lebanese authorities have extended the deadline to February 18.
