Taipei [Taiwan]: Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence (MND) reported the detection of 13 Chinese aircraft, eight vessels, and two official ships around Taiwan as of 6 AM on Sunday. Of the 13 aircraft, 11 crossed the median line, entering Taiwan’s northern, southwestern, and eastern air defense identification zone (ADIZ). The MND shared on X that they are monitoring the situation and have responded accordingly.
On Saturday, Taiwan observed 47 sorties from Chinese aircraft and seven vessels by 6 AM local time. Out of these, 41 aircraft crossed the median line and entered Taiwan’s ADIZ. The MND noted this increased activity in another post on X.
Earlier in the day, Taiwan’s Coast Guard Administration (CGA) condemned China for its involvement in illegal fishing activities near the Dongsha Islands in the South China Sea, as reported by Focus Taiwan. The CGA indicated that a significant number of Chinese fishing vessels began congregating near Dongsha on February 15, including six motherships and 29 smaller boats. Despite efforts from CGA vessels to remove the Chinese boats, they faced interference from Chinese coast guard ships within Taiwan’s restricted waters, although their attempts were unsuccessful. In reaction to these provocations, the CGA intensified patrols around the Dongsha Islands starting February 26. During this operation, the CGA stopped and boarded the Chinese fishing vessel “Yueraoyu 23588,” but the Chinese Coast Guard intervened again.
