According to Pakistani newspaper The News International, the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has taken responsibility for the attack. BLA said that they had forbidden shopkeepers in the area from selling flags. When the shopkeepers did not listen, they attacked them with bombs.

Liaquat Bazaar is one of the busiest streets in Quetta. There was a lot of crowd here during the attack. 78th Independence Day is being celebrated in Pakistan on Wednesday. BLA has asked people not to celebrate holiday on 14 August. At the same time, government hospital spokesperson Wasim Beg said that six injured and three bodies were brought to the hospital.
