Violence Erupted in Thailand
Over 130,000 Thai civilians and approximately 20,000 Cambodians have been evacuated from the conflict zones.
The violence began early Thursday near the Ta Muen Thom Temple in Thailand’s Surin province, with both sides accusing each other of initiating the hostilities.
Thailand claims Cambodian forces fired first, using heavy artillery and rocket-propelled grenades, while Cambodia alleges Thai troops launched “unprovoked” attacks. Reports indicate Thailand deployed F-16 fighter jets for airstrikes on Cambodian military targets, escalating the situation further.
Cambodia has accused Thailand of using banned cluster munitions, a claim Thailand denies, while Thailand reports injuries from newly laid landmines, which it attributes to Cambodian forces.
