Sydney: Authorities in Australia are on the hunt for a man who allegedly shot one individual and stabbed another, resulting in both suffering life-threatening injuries.
The Queensland police reported that a 30-year-old man fled the scene after the violent incident, which occurred during a dispute in the early hours of Monday morning.
Emergency services responded to reports of a disturbance in Surfers Paradise, located 70 km southeast of Brisbane on Queensland’s Gold Coast, just before 2 a.m. local time.
At the scene, a 21-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound to his abdomen and multiple stab wounds to his back, while a 44-year-old man had sustained stab wounds to his head, neck, and leg. Both individuals received immediate treatment for their critical injuries before being transported to a nearby hospital, where their condition was stabilized.
Police recovered a firearm at the location and have initiated a search for the 30-year-old suspect who fled prior to their arrival.
Queensland Police Service Acting Chief Superintendent Peter Miles told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation that law enforcement has a “fair idea” of the suspect’s identity.
“We urge this individual to surrender. This situation won’t resolve itself, as it involves attempted murder,” he stated. “We just need you to come in and turn yourself in, and we will address the matter from there.”
Miles indicated that the incident took place in a shared area after the 44-year-old and 21-year-old men intervened in a disturbance occurring in a neighboring unit.
