U.S. raises tariff on China to 145%; China retaliates with 125%

America has imposed a tariff of 145% on China, not 125%. The White House has clarified this. Trump had announced a 125% tariff on China on Wednesday.

Washington: The tariff war between America and China is increasing. In response to America’s 145% tariff, China has now imposed a 125% tariff. This will come into effect from tomorrow. China has said that now it will not respond to any additional tariff imposed by America.

China said that the abnormal tariffs imposed by the US seriously violate international economic and trade rules. This is a completely unilateral policy of pressure and intimidation.

Xi Jinping said- China is not afraid of anyone

Chinese President Xi Jinping has given his first statement amid the growing tariff dispute with the US. He said that China is not afraid of anyone. China’s development in the last 70 years is the result of hard work and self-reliance.

Jinping said-

“China has never relied on the charity of others. Nor has it ever been afraid of anyone’s coercion. No matter how much the world changes, China will not be troubled.”

Jinping said that there is no winner in a trade war. Going against the world means going against oneself. Jinping said this during a meeting with Spanish PM Pedro Sanchez. Sanchez arrived in China on Friday.

Sanchez is the first European leader to visit China after Trump announced tariffs. He has visited China three times in the last 2 years. Sanchez had also criticized Trump regarding the tariffs.

He said on April 8 that Trump’s tariffs would force Europe to look for new markets. Apart from this, both European countries and China would consider improving their relations.

America has imposed a tariff of 145% on China, not 125%. The White House has clarified this. Trump had announced a 125% tariff on China on Wednesday. After this, on Thursday, the White House said that a 20% fentanyl tariff has also been added to it, which was effective from March 2025.

Trump imposed a 20% tariff on China on March 4 for its alleged role in fentanyl drug smuggling. This was being counted separately till now. According to the White House, a 125% tariff, a 20% fentanyl tariff and a 1% miscellaneous adjustment have been imposed on China. It is not yet clear why the miscellaneous adjustment has been imposed.

In simple terms, imposing a 145% tariff on China means that a $100 product made in China will now cost $245 when it reaches the US. The sale of Chinese products will decrease as they will become more expensive in the US. Let us tell you that China has also imposed a retaliatory 84% tariff on the US.

Fentanyl drug is hollowing out America

Fentanyl is 50 times more powerful than heroin and 100 times more powerful than morphine. President Trump says that this drug is prepared in China and then sent to America via Mexico and Canada. The Chinese government has failed to stop it.

According to CDC data, more than 70 thousand Americans will die from fentanyl overdoses in 2024. Trump claims that this drug is ‘hollowing out’ America from within. He has even called it a conspiracy of China.

According to reports, China was earlier the biggest source of fentanyl. But in 2019, the Chinese government banned it. Since then, drug smugglers send chemicals from China instead of fentanyl. After this, Mexican drug cartels prepare it in the lab. The DEA report says that 97% of fentanyl comes to America from the Mexican border.

Trump said- For those countries which will make a deal, the tariff will remain 10%

Trump said on April 9 that more than 75 countries have called US representatives and these countries have not retaliated against the US in any way on my strong suggestion. Therefore, I have accepted a 90-day pause. This ban on tariffs will provide time to negotiate new trade agreements.

Earlier on April 2, they had announced reciprocal tariffs for different countries. Under this, a 26% tariff was imposed on India as well. But now a 10% baseline tariff has been imposed on all countries except China for 90 days.

China said yesterday- instead of bowing down, we will fight till the end

Amid the ongoing tariff war between China and the US, China said yesterday that it would choose to fight to the end rather than bow down to the US “by force”. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said that China is not afraid of provocation, it will not retreat.

Mao Ning had shared many posts on social media. It also had a video of former Chinese leader Mao Zedong. In it, Mao is saying – We are Chinese. We are not afraid of provocation. We do not retreat. This video is from 1953 when China and America were indirectly face to face in the Korean War.

In the video, Mao says- We cannot decide how long this war will last. It depends on President Truman or Eisenhower or whoever becomes the new President. No matter how long this war lasts, we will never bow down. We will fight until we win completely.
