IPL betting exposed in Ludhiana, 2 arrested in hawala link

The police of Police Station Division Number 4 in Ludhiana have busted a gang involved in betting on IPL matches and arrested 2 accused. From their possession, Rs 1,10,000 in cash and 2 mobile phones have been recovered. The police are interrogating the accused.

During patrolling, the police received information from an informant that some people place bets on IPL matches and lure innocent people with the promise of money to get their bank accounts opened. Later, money is deposited into those accounts through hawala, and fraud is committed.

During the operation, the police apprehended both accused. The accused have been identified as Shubham Dixit, son of Sham Lal, resident of Grewal Colony, Ludhiana, and Vikas Mahita, son of Sanjay Mahita, resident of New Kartar Nagar, Ludhiana. The police are investigating in how many accounts hawala money has been received.

The police have also obtained several pieces of evidence, after which they will soon put pressure on several other people as well. The police have registered a case against the accused under BNS sections 318(4), 336(2), 338, 336(3), and 340(2). For now, interrogation of both is ongoing and the police are investigating the matter in depth.
