Iran Allows India-Linked Ships Through Strait of Hormuz, but With Conditions

Tehran: Iran has announced that vessels belonging to “friendly nations,” including India, may pass through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, but under strict conditions.

Which Countries Are Included?

According to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, the list of nations allowed includes China, Russia, India, Iraq, and Pakistan. The Consulate General of Iran in Mumbai confirmed this statement.

Conditions for Passage

Iran’s UN mission clarified that only “non-hostile vessels” will be granted safe passage. These ships must:

• Avoid supporting actions against Iran
• Comply with Iranian security protocols
• Coordinate movement in advance with Iranian authorities

The Iranian Defence Council reinforced that all transit through the Strait now requires prior coordination, emphasizing tighter control over maritime traffic.

Global Concerns

UN Secretary-General António Guterres warned that disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz are hitting global supply chains, affecting oil, gas, and fertilizer movement during the global planting season. He urged an immediate end to the conflict, calling on the US and Israel to halt the war, and for Iran to stop attacks on countries not directly involved.
