Iran’s Khondab Heavy Water Plant Severely Damaged, Not Operational: IAEA

Vienna: Iran’s heavy water production plant at Khondab has been severely damaged and is no longer operational, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said. The agency confirmed the findings based on satellite imagery and analysis of the installation.

No Nuclear Material or Radiation Risk
The IAEA noted that the Khondab plant contains no declared nuclear material and that the March 27 attack posed no radiation risk. Earlier reports from Iran also confirmed the facility was struck but remained free of radiation hazards.

Other Facilities Targeted
Iran reported that the Khuzestan Steel Production Factory, which uses sealed radioactive sources for industrial gauging, was also hit. Authorities confirmed no off-site radiation release and said the facility continues normal operations.

Military Activity Near Nuclear Sites Raises Concerns
The IAEA also highlighted increased military activity near the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, marking the third such strike in 10 days amid the ongoing US-Israel-Iran tensions.
