Kuwait City: Kuwait suspended all aviation operations and activated emergency measures after Iranian missile strikes targeted areas across the Gulf nation on Saturday amid escalating tensions between the United States and Iran.

Air raid sirens were heard across Kuwait as authorities advised residents to remain indoors and move to safe locations after missiles entered Kuwaiti airspace.

Iran claims strikes on US-linked facilities

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for the attacks, stating that its forces targeted the Arifjan Ground Forces Support Centre in Kuwait, where US personnel are stationed.

The IRGC also claimed to have carried out a drone strike targeting a radar installation at the US Ali Al Salem base and reported attacks on a US Navy fuel support facility at Al Ahmadi Port.

Iranian state media further claimed that a US communication and signalling centre in Kuwait was targeted during the operation. These claims have not been independently verified.

Kuwait closes airspace, suspends flights

Following the strikes, Kuwait authorities temporarily closed the country’s airspace, leading to the suspension of all flight operations at Kuwait International Airport.

Kuwait Airways halted both incoming and outgoing flights as a precautionary measure amid the worsening security situation in the region.

The airline had earlier announced flight schedule changes due to the rising tensions before the complete airspace closure.

Power and water facilities affected after strikes

The missile attacks also impacted Kuwait’s critical infrastructure, with the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy confirming a fire at a section of a power and water desalination facility.

The ministry said some generating units were temporarily disconnected as a precautionary measure to protect workers and maintain the stability of the electricity grid.

Officials said emergency plans were activated immediately to ensure continued electricity and water supplies, while technical teams continued monitoring operations.

The latest developments come amid a sharp escalation in tensions between Washington and Tehran, raising concerns over wider instability in the Gulf region.
