Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has written to UN Secretary-General António Guterres, condemning alleged US-Israeli strikes near Iran’s nuclear facilities. He warned that repeated attacks around the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant pose serious risks to public safety and the environment, not just within Iran but across the wider Gulf region.

Fears of Regional Fallout
Calling the situation “intolerable,” Araghchi cautioned that any radioactive leak could impact neighbouring countries, particularly Gulf nations. He claimed the site had been targeted four times, adding that potential fallout could threaten nearby Gulf capitals even more than Tehran.

IAEA Flags Risks, No Radiation Spike Yet
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed that a projectile recently struck near the facility, killing one staff member and damaging a building. However, it noted that no rise in radiation levels has been detected so far. IAEA chief Rafael Grossi expressed concern, stressing that nuclear sites should never be targeted and urging all sides to exercise restraint.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Tasnim news agency reported that the main plant infrastructure remains intact and electricity production continues normally at the country’s only operational nuclear power facility.
