Iran Sets Conditions for Reopening Strait of Hormuz, Demands Compensation

Tehran: Iran has laid out a fresh set of conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, saying the key waterway will remain closed until the United States changes its approach toward Tehran.

According to Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Tehran wants the US to end threats, lift its naval blockade on Iranian ports and withdraw American forces from the region.

Tehran Demands War Compensation

Iran has also called for full compensation for damage caused by the conflict, the release of its frozen assets without conditions and the removal of US sanctions.

Iranian officials said they want a permanent end to the conflict involving Iran and its allies in West Asia before agreeing to fully reopen the strategic waterway.

Talks With Oman Continue

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said discussions with Oman on navigation through the Strait of Hormuz were making progress. However, he stressed that reopening the route would depend on several additional conditions.

Oman said the negotiations were taking place in a positive and constructive atmosphere.

Strait Remains Key to Global Oil Trade

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important energy routes, carrying around 20% of global oil trade. Any prolonged disruption could affect international shipping and energy markets.

Meanwhile, the UAE said a vessel belonging to state-owned ADNOC was attacked in the strait, though no casualties were reported.

US Vice President JD Vance said there had been progress toward a possible arrangement for safe passage of ships, but added that Washington was still assessing whether the proposed deal would meet its requirements.
