Iran Refuses to Stop Uranium Enrichment, Warns US

Iran has once again taken a firm stand on its nuclear policy, refusing to halt uranium enrichment despite mounting pressure from the United States. Iranian officials have warned Washington against escalating tensions, asserting that the country’s nuclear programme is non-negotiable and rooted in national sovereignty.

The development comes at a time when diplomatic efforts to revive nuclear negotiations remain fragile, raising concerns of a fresh geopolitical confrontation in the Middle East.

Tehran Calls Uranium Enrichment a Sovereign Right

Iran’s leadership has reiterated that uranium enrichment is its legitimate right under international law. Senior Iranian officials stated that the nation has invested heavily in its nuclear infrastructure and will not abandon the programme under threats or coercion.

Iran maintains that its nuclear activities are meant for peaceful purposes, including energy generation and scientific research. However, the United States and its allies argue that continued enrichment could bring Tehran closer to developing nuclear weapons—an allegation Iran has consistently denied.

Warning Issued to the United States

In a clear message to Washington, Iran warned that continued pressure, sanctions, or military threats would only worsen tensions. Iranian officials said any aggressive move by the US would be met with a “decisive response,” underscoring that intimidation would not force policy changes.

This warning follows increased US military presence in the region, which Tehran has described as provocative and destabilising.

    Nuclear Talks at a Deadlock

Indirect talks between Iran and the United States, mediated by regional players, have failed to achieve a breakthrough so far. While Washington has demanded limits or a halt to enrichment as a key condition for easing sanctions, Tehran insists that such demands undermine its sovereignty.

Diplomatic sources indicate that while both sides remain open to dialogue, the core disagreement over uranium enrichment remains unresolved.

    Regional and Global Concerns Grow

The standoff has triggered anxiety across the Middle East, with regional powers closely monitoring the situation. Countries in the region fear that further escalation could lead to military conflict, disrupting regional stability and global energy markets.

Israel and several Western allies continue to urge the US to maintain a tough stance on Iran, while other nations have called for restraint and renewed diplomacy.

    What Lies Ahead?

With both Iran and the United States hardening their positions, prospects for an immediate diplomatic resolution appear uncertain. Analysts warn that unless meaningful dialogue resumes, tensions could spiral further, increasing the risk of sanctions, confrontations, or worse.

For now, Iran’s message is unequivocal: uranium enrichment will continue, and external pressure will not dictate its nuclear future.
