Tehran: Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has stated that whether there’s a future war or not will not affect Iran’s policies. He warned that resuming military action against Tehran would be irrational. According to the Iranian news agency ISNA, Araghchi made this statement at a time when US President Donald Trump has expressed the possibility of an imminent attack on Iran.
Araghchi made these remarks during the inauguration ceremony of the Martyr Sayyed Kamal Kharrazi Documentation Center and Museum. The occasion also included a special meeting on Sayyed Kamal Kharrazi’s role in building consensus on foreign policy and the inauguration of the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s special library.
Araghchi said, “Today there is talk of war again, but now I am thinking about war. Whether there is war or not, our policies will remain in place.”
He further said that if the other side has any sense, it will not try to take military action against Iran again.
The situation in the Strait of Hormuz will never be the same: Araghchi
Iran’s Foreign Minister said that after the 40-day war, the situation in the Strait of Hormuz will never be the same. According to him, this conflict has fundamentally changed the regional security system.
Araghchi said, “After the 40-day war, the Strait of Hormuz will never be the same.” He also said that a new reality has been established in the region and nothing will be the same again.
Describing the conflict as a turning point in the history of the region, Araghchi said that the ‘Ramadan War’ has completely changed the security system of the region. He said the war must end on all fronts.
Iran claims more than 80 US aircraft destroyed
Araghchi claimed that Iranian forces destroyed more than 80 US aircraft and fighter jets during the war. According to him, almost all of these were targeted by missiles while on the ground.
He also claimed that nearly all US military bases in the region had been destroyed and hundreds of buildings had been destroyed. These claims were reported by Iran’s ISNA news agency. The report did not provide independent confirmation of these claims.
Trump said an attack on Iran could happen soon
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump made a statement on a possible attack on Iran after casting his vote for the midterm elections in Florida on Saturday.
When asked if the US would attack Iran, Trump said, “Do you really think I’ll tell you this? Maybe tomorrow… that’s a possibility. It’s also possible we’ll reach a good, big deal. They want to make a deal, but the question is, will they follow through on that deal?”
Trump also praised the US Army and Navy while defending his government’s strategy in West Asia. He claimed that the US military had destroyed all of Iran’s fighter jets and sunk 259 ships. He said that Iran now has only record inflation left.
Iran Rejects Proposal to Open the Strait of Hormuz
Meanwhile, according to the Iran-based news agency Tasnim, Tehran has not made any new proposals to Pakistani mediators. The report also said that Iran has rejected a reported offer to lift the US naval blockade in exchange for reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Press TV, sources told Tasnim that reports from a Saudi media outlet that Iran had sent such a proposal to the US through Pakistan were “false and fabricated.”
Earlier, a Saudi media outlet had claimed that Tehran had proposed to the US administration through Pakistan that Iran would open the Strait of Hormuz if Washington lifted its naval blockade.
