CWG Gold Medallist Isaac Okoh Says ‘I Can Beat Anyone’ Ahead Of European Championships

New Delhi: England’s Commonwealth Games gold medallist boxer Isaac Okoh is brimming with confidence as he prepares for the ongoing European Championships in Sofia.

Okoh, who endured a disappointing World Championships campaign, bounced back strongly this year by winning the 90kg gold medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. He now aims to continue his impressive form at the European Championships.

Isaac Okoh Confident Ahead Of European Championships

Okoh will begin his European Championships campaign against Poland’s Alexey Sevostyanov in the first round on Sunday.

Speaking about his preparations, Okoh said he currently feels capable of beating anyone in the world and believes it will take a top-level opponent to defeat him.

“I’m confident I can beat anyone in the world at the minute. It’s going to take a really good fighter to beat me,” Okoh said.

He added that the 90kg category features several strong competitors but said he believes he is firmly in contention for the gold medal.

Commonwealth Games Gold Boosted Okoh’s Confidence

Okoh described his Commonwealth Games gold medal as a dream come true, particularly because he was able to celebrate the achievement with family and friends.

He said winning the title had given him additional confidence for the future, with Olympic qualification events approaching and the 2028 Olympics also on the horizon.

Okoh said he had been boxing exceptionally well since the World Championships and felt his recent performances had put him in a strong position heading into the European Championships.

England’s Young Squad High On Confidence

Okoh also praised England’s boxing squad, describing the Commonwealth Games campaign as historic for the nation.

India and Great Britain finished the Commonwealth Games with 10 medals each, although India led the boxing medal tally with seven gold medals, compared with four for Great Britain.

Okoh said England have a talented and youthful squad for the European Championships, with strong morale within the camp.

He described the team as young, hungry and confident ahead of the continental competition.
