Ishan Kishan’s Inclusion in India’s T20 World Cup Squad: Mohammed Kaif Reacts

February 14, 2026

Former Indian cricketer Mohammed Kaif has voiced his views on the selection of Ishan Kishan in India’s squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, highlighting the importance of form and performance for international selection. India is currently competing in the tournament, and Kishan’s place in the squad has drawn attention following his explosive batting performances.

Kaif Backs Merit-Based Selection

Kaif welcomed Kishan’s inclusion, suggesting that selection should reward players who are performing well on the field. He emphasized that consistent batting displays in recent times justified giving Kishan a place in the World Cup squad, especially as India look to build a strong top order in the shortest format. According to Kaif, team selection for big tournaments ought to be guided by current form and impact in recent matches rather than reputation alone.

Kishan’s World Cup Impact So Far

Kishan has been one of India’s most impressive batters in the ongoing T20 World Cup. In the group stage match against Namibia, he scored a blistering 61 off just 24 balls, powering India to a commanding total and earning the Impact Player award for his knock. This innings marked him as one of the most dangerous batters at the top of the order and showcased his ability to change games quickly.

A Story of Comeback and Form

Kishan’s return to the national side has been widely seen as a comeback story. After being out of favour for a period, he worked his way back into contention through strong performances in domestic cricket and franchise tournaments. His recent form, marked by aggressive strokeplay and big-scoring ability, has reinforced the belief among analysts that India have secured a potent opening option for T20 World Cup challenges.

Looking Ahead for India

With India now progressing through the World Cup group stages, Kishan’s role as a key batter will be under continuing scrutiny. Kaif’s reaction reflects broader cricketing opinion that current form should heavily influence selection decisions, especially at major ICC events where momentum and performance pressure are high. India is expected to face strong competition in the later stages of the tournament.
