Israeli Airstrike on Southern Lebanon Kills Seven, Injures Three: Lebanese State Media

Tel Aviv: At least seven people were killed and three others injured after an Israeli airstrike hit a house near Ansar in southern Lebanon on Saturday, according to Lebanese state media.

The strike targeted a house on the outskirts of Ansar in the Nabatieh district, destroying the building, Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported, as cited by Al Jazeera.

Israeli airstrikes also intensified around the Ali al-Taher Ridge near Nabatieh al-Fawqa, according to the report.

IDF Says Strikes Targeted Hezbollah Infrastructure

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said the overnight strikes were carried out in response to what it described as an action by Hezbollah against Israeli troops operating in the Ali al-Taher Ridge area.

The IDF said the area is part of what it calls a “Security Zone” where Israeli troops are operating.

In a statement, the Israeli military said it had struck what it described as Hezbollah “terror infrastructure” in the Nabatieh and Ansar areas of southern Lebanon.

The IDF said it would continue operations to counter what it described as threats posed by Hezbollah to Israeli civilians and Israeli troops.

Nabatieh and Ansar are located around 15 km apart in southern Lebanon.

Israel Says Hamas Commander Killed in Gaza

The latest strikes came amid heightened tensions along the Israel-Lebanon front, particularly in southern Lebanon, with the IDF saying its operations are focused on Hezbollah’s military infrastructure and preventing attacks on Israeli forces.

Separately, the Israeli military said on Friday that it had killed a Hamas company commander in southern Gaza.

According to the IDF, Hudhaifa Khaled Suleiman Qawari, a company commander in Hamas’ Khan Yunis Brigade, was killed in an Israeli strike in southern Gaza on Thursday.

The IDF alleged that Qawari had been involved in training Hamas fighters, transferring weapons across southern Gaza and efforts to rebuild the group’s military capabilities.

The military further alleged that he had recently advanced attacks against Israeli troops and civilians and was targeted to remove what it described as an immediate threat.

The IDF said precautions were taken before the strike to reduce risks to civilians, including the use of precision-guided munitions and aerial surveillance.

“IDF troops under the Southern Command remain deployed in the area in accordance with the agreement and will continue to operate to remove any immediate threat,” the military said.
