Jaaved Jaaferi Recalls Rumours of Being Sanjay Dutt’s Dance Double in ‘Tamma Tamma’

Mumbai: Bollywood actor and dancer Jaaved Jaaferi has recalled a rumour that once claimed he was Sanjay Dutt’s dance double in the iconic song Tamma Tamma.

Appearing on the dance reality show India’s Best Dancer, Jaaved spoke about how people mistakenly believed that Sanjay Dutt’s signature dance moves in the hit track were actually performed by him.

Talking to special guest Urmila Matondkar, Jaaved said there was a rumour suggesting he had “duplicated” Sanjay Dutt’s dance style in the song. He added that Sanjay Dutt had worked hard on the performance, but viewers still questioned whether it was truly him in the iconic sequence.

Urmila Matondkar, reacting to the conversation, said the confusion likely came from Jaaved Jaaferi’s unique and ahead-of-its-time dancing style, which had a strong impact on audiences when he first appeared on screen.

She also praised his performance in Bol Baby Bol Rock N Roll, noting that his choreography and style were unlike anything seen before in Bollywood at the time.

The song Tamma Tamma featured Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit in the film Thanedaar, and its hook steps went on to become one of the most popular and widely recognised dance moments in Bollywood history.
