Jaipur ATS Sends Alleged JeM Sleeper Cell Operative Babita to Judicial Custody After 7-Day Remand Ends

Jaipur: Alleged Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) sleeper cell operative Babita Dhakad alias Khadija was produced before a Jaipur court on Saturday after the completion of her seven-day Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) remand and was sent to judicial custody.

Why She Was Arrested

Babita was arrested by the Rajasthan ATS from Jaipur’s Vatika area earlier this month after investigators suspected her involvement in a terror-linked radicalisation and recruitment network.

According to officials, she was allegedly the following:

• In contact with JeM operatives for nearly two years
• Being groomed by Pakistan-based handlers for terror activities
• Under preparation for a possible suicide attack
• Searching online for information related to suicide attacks
• Using social media under aliases for suspected terror-linked communication

ATS sources also allege that Pakistan-based handlers were using online platforms to radicalise and train her remotely.

Court Sends Accused to Judicial Custody

After completion of custodial interrogation, Babita was produced before the Court of the Additional Civil Judge and Judicial Magistrate, which sent her to judicial custody. She is scheduled to be produced again on June 29.

Alleged Pakistan-Based Network and Training

According to ATS sources, Babita had been in contact with JeM operatives for nearly two years and was suspected of being prepared for a possible suicide attack.

Investigators claim:

• Pakistan-based handlers were providing online training
• Digital forensic analysis showed searches related to suicide attacks
• She was being guided through encrypted and social media platforms

Officials also suspect she was trained to use social media to establish contact with Indian Army personnel as part of an alleged honey-trap strategy.

Digital Evidence Under Investigation

Forensic examination of her mobile phone and social media activity reportedly revealed:

• A Facebook account under the pseudonym “Duniya Dhokhebaaz”
• More than 300 foreign contacts, including individuals based in Pakistan
• Multiple online interactions under the name “Khadija”

Authorities say her digital footprint is being closely analysed.

ATS officials further suspect that Babita was planning to leave India via the illegal “donkey route” to reach Pakistan without valid travel documents. Officials confirmed that she did not possess an Indian passport.

Legal Action Under UAPA

A case has been registered against her under Sections 38 and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Officials said the investigation remains sensitive due to national security concerns.

Ongoing Multi-Agency Probe

The Rajasthan ATS, along with central intelligence agencies, is tracking the digital and financial network to identify other potential sleeper cells or local contacts. Further investigation into the network’s logistics and cross-border connections is ongoing.
