Jaipur authorities seize fake drugs valued at ₹3.73 crore

Jaipur: The Rajasthan Medical and Health Department has intensified its action against counterfeit drug production in the state, officials said.

In a major late-night operation on Friday, the Food Safety and Drug Control Directorate seized fake medicines worth ₹3.73 crore from city-based GK Enterprises. Rajasthan Food Safety Commissioner T. Shubhamangala confirmed the development, while Drug Controller Ajay Pathak said the seized stock included counterfeit Winset-L and Algivin-M tablets falsely labelled as products of YL Pharma, Baddi (Himachal Pradesh).

During the inspection, officers learned that one of the firm’s partners had exited in 2019. However, the remaining partner, Khemchand, continued operations without securing a fresh license, violating provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940. A case has now been registered and further investigation is underway.

Statewide Action Against Substandard Drugs

Rajasthan recently banned nearly 40 medicines and suspended all products from Kaysons Pharma after multiple quality control failures, including incidents linked to contaminated cough syrup causing child deaths. This year, the Rajasthan Medical Services Corporation has debarred seven firms and 40 medicines — the largest enforcement action since its inception.

Medical and Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khinvsar said that while uninterrupted supply under the Free Medicine Scheme is important, ensuring safe and standard-quality medicines remains the government’s top priority.
