Jaipur: Three dead, seven injured as speeding car rams into parked container on NH-48

JAIPUR: A tragic road accident in Jaipur claimed the lives of a mother, her son and daughter-in-law, while seven others were seriously injured after their speeding car rammed into a parked container truck. The collision was so severe that the front portion of the car was completely crushed, killing three occupants on the spot. The accident occurred around 11 am on Tuesday on National Highway-48 near the Chandwaji police station area on the Jaipur–Delhi highway.

Eyewitnesses said the car was travelling at a very high speed when it suddenly went out of control and crashed into the container parked by the roadside. Several passengers were trapped inside the mangled vehicle and were rescued by locals and police personnel. The impact was so intense that the car’s engine was thrown out and the front portion almost split into two parts.

Three family members killed, seven injured

Doctors at NIMS Hospital declared Pooja Singh, wife of Vivek Kumar; Basanti, wife of Harishankar; and Vivek Kumar, son of Harishankar, dead on arrival. All three were residents of Dibulgaj in Varanasi. Seven other passengers, including women and children, sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

The injured have been identified as Vikas (34), Aditi (34), Nikki (28), Sibu (2), Kuku (18 months), all residents of Dibulgaj in Varanasi, along with Anshu (19) and Deepraj (23) from Phoola in Raebareli. Their condition is reported to be serious but stable.

Overspeeding suspected, traffic disrupted

Chandwaji SHO Hiralal Saini said the accident took place at Bilpur, about one kilometre before the Chandwaji flyover. Preliminary investigation suggests the mishap may have occurred due to overspeeding and the driver possibly falling asleep at the wheel. Police have seized both the damaged car and the container truck for further investigation.

Following the accident, traffic on NH-48 was disrupted for nearly 30 minutes, with long queues forming on both sides of the highway. Traffic movement was later restored gradually. The family was reportedly returning after a pilgrimage to Khatushyamji. The incident once again highlights rising concerns over road safety on national highways.
