A joyful wedding procession in Jaipur turned into a horrifying accident when a car suddenly rammed into a group of people dancing in the baraat. The incident left around 16 people injured, creating panic and chaos among the wedding guests.
According to police officials, the accident occurred on Saturday night in the Bassi area of Jaipur district, where relatives and friends were dancing behind a DJ vehicle as part of the traditional wedding procession.
The sudden crash disrupted the celebrations, with many people knocked to the ground and several suffering injuries.
Police said that nearly 50 people were participating in the wedding procession, dancing and singing along with music played on a DJ trolley moving along the road.
A car belonging to the same group was reportedly driving slowly behind the DJ vehicle. However, the driver accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brake, causing the vehicle to suddenly speed forward and plough into the crowd dancing ahead.
The vehicle crashed directly into the revellers, knocking several of them down and causing panic among the crowd.
Eyewitnesses said that the moment the car hit the crowd, people began screaming and running to safety. Some wedding guests quickly rushed to help the injured while others alerted the police and ambulance services.
Relatives and local residents immediately helped move the victims away from the road to prevent further harm. Several injured people were initially transported to nearby hospitals using private vehicles before ambulances arrived.
The incident created an atmosphere of shock as the festive wedding celebration suddenly turned into a scene of distress and confusion.
All injured individuals were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Doctors later referred seven seriously injured victims to Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital in Jaipur for advanced medical care.
Most of the injured reportedly sustained minor injuries, though one woman suffered a fracture in her leg and remains in serious condition, according to medical officials.
Authorities confirmed that the victims are currently receiving treatment and their condition is being closely monitored by doctors.
Police from the Bassi police station reached the spot soon after receiving information about the accident. Officers have started collecting statements from witnesses and examining the circumstances that led to the crash.
Officials said that no formal complaint had been filed initially, but the investigation is ongoing to determine whether negligence or reckless driving played a role in the accident.
Authorities are also examining the driver’s actions and vehicle details as part of the probe.
The incident has once again highlighted the safety risks associated with crowded wedding processions, where people often dance on roads with vehicles moving nearby.
Police officials have urged organisers to take extra precautions during such celebrations, including controlling traffic and ensuring that vehicles maintain safe distances from the crowd.
While the injured victims continue to recover, the tragic accident serves as a reminder of how quickly celebrations can turn dangerous when safety measures are ignored.
