Jal Shakti Department JE murdered in Kullu over suspicion of illicit relations; four arrested, including female doctor

In a major breakthrough regarding the murder of Jal Shakti Department Junior Engineer Labh Singh Guleria, the Kullu Police have arrested a female doctor, her physician husband, her father-in-law, and her brother-in-law. According to the police, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) solved this “blind murder” case after six days of intensive investigation. Preliminary inquiries suggest the motive behind the murder was a suspected illicit affair. The police have initiated the process of producing the four accused before the court.

According to the police, on the evening of July 24, Junior Engineer Labh Singh Guleria was summoned to a house in Gandhinagar under the pretext of inspecting a water pipeline. It is alleged that the four accused, who were already present at the location, assaulted him, resulting in his death. Subsequently, the body was dumped near a drain with the intention of destroying evidence and staging the incident to look like an accident.

Premeditated Murder Plot
SP Madan Lal Kaushal stated that the SIT, led by ASP Sanjeev Chauhan, pieced together the sequence of events using crucial evidence, including mobile call details, forensic evidence collected from the crime scene, CCTV footage, and the statement of a domestic helper. The investigation revealed that the accused suspected an illicit relationship between the female doctor and the deceased Junior Engineer, prompting them to hatch a premeditated plot to kill him.

The arrested individuals include Dr. Shambhavi Thakur (a doctor at the Regional Hospital, Kullu), her husband Dr. Karan Thakur (an Ayurvedic physician), her father-in-law Vijay Singh, and her brother-in-law Dinesh Thakur. The police took all four into custody and formally arrested them following interrogation.

SP Madan Lal Kaushal stated that action in the case has been taken based on forensic and circumstantial evidence. The investigation is ongoing, and further legal action will be taken if new facts emerge.
