Jalandhar ANTF Seizes 1 kg of Heroin; Amritsar resident arrested

The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of Jalandhar has apprehended a heroin smuggler. During an operation conducted in the Jandiala Guru area of ​​Amritsar, the police recovered 1.264 kilograms of heroin from the accused’s possession.

The arrested accused has been identified as Karandeep Singh alias Karan, a resident of Guru Tegh Bahadur Nagar, Mehta Road, Amritsar. The accused, who has studied only up to the 5th grade, began consuming drugs while working as a carpenter; subsequently, he ventured into the illicit trade of drug smuggling.

This operation was executed under the directives of ADGP (ANTF) Nilabh Kishore and under the supervision of AIG Jagjit Singh Saroa and DSP Bikramjit Singh.

The ANTF team had received a tip-off that the accused was transporting a consignment of narcotics. Acting on this information, a team led by ASI Kuldeep Singh cordoned off the Green Avenue Colony in Jandiala Guru, Amritsar, and apprehended the accused.

The police have registered a case against the accused under the NDPS Act at the ANTF Police Station in Mohali. Officials stated that the accused is currently being interrogated to uncover the backward and forward linkages of this drug network.

During preliminary police interrogation, the accused, Karandeep Singh, made several revelations. The accused has studied only up to the 5th grade and worked as a carpenter to earn a livelihood. His father had passed away a considerable time ago.

The accused disclosed that he fell into bad company and subsequently became addicted to drugs. Driven by the need to sustain his drug habit and the greed to earn quick money, he began smuggling heroin.
