Jalandhar Encounter: Wanted Bambiha Gang Shooter Injured in Police Firing, Says CP Satinder Singh

Jalandhar: A suspected shooter linked to the Bambiha gang was injured in a police encounter in Jalandhar after allegedly opening fire on a police team during an attempted escape. The accused, identified as Jodh Singh alias Jodha, is wanted in multiple criminal cases in Punjab, including those registered in Mohali and Moga.

According to Jalandhar Police Commissioner Satinder Singh, the CIA staff had set up a checkpoint after receiving specific intelligence about the accused’s movement. When signalled to stop, Jodha allegedly sped away on his motorcycle. Police said his bike later skidded, following which he allegedly fired at the police team. The police retaliated in self-defence, injuring him in the leg.

The accused was taken to a hospital for treatment and will be interrogated after receiving medical care.

Linked to Vardan Hospital Firing Case

Police said Jodh Singh alias Jodha was the shooter involved in the firing outside Vardan Hospital in Jalandhar’s Mota Singh Nagar on February 28. During the incident, the attacker allegedly fired four rounds within a few seconds at the hospital gate before fleeing.

According to the Police Commissioner, the helmet and weapon recovered from the accused matched those seen in CCTV footage from the hospital firing incident. Police said the CCTV footage helped establish his identity.

The firing had triggered panic among hospital staff, although no casualties were reported. Following the incident, senior police officials initiated departmental action against officers over alleged negligence.

Wanted in Multiple Cases

Police said Jodha is also wanted by the Mohali and Moga police in other criminal cases and has allegedly been involved in several offences across Punjab.

Investigators alleged that he was working on the instructions of Lucky Patial, an alleged gangster believed to be operating from abroad. Police said information regarding his associates and the gang’s network has also been obtained during the investigation.

Probe into Money Trail and Overseas Links

According to the Police Commissioner, preliminary investigation suggests that a person based in Canada allegedly financed the attack due to a dispute with Vardan Hospital. Police said the accused has disclosed information regarding the money trail and individuals involved in arranging funds.

Investigators are verifying the identity of the person and examining whether the attack was linked to an extortion demand made to the hospital. Police said legal action will be initiated against anyone found involved.

Who is Lucky Patial?

According to Punjab Police records, Lucky Patial is considered one of the prominent figures associated with the Bambiha gang and is wanted in several cases, including murder, attempted murder, extortion and Arms Act violations. Following the death of gangster Davinder Bambiha in a police encounter in 2016, investigators say Patial emerged as one of the key operators of the gang.

Police allege that he currently operates the gang’s network from abroad using encrypted communication platforms and directs associates in Punjab and other states. The Bambiha gang has long been involved in a rivalry with the Lawrence Bishnoi-Goldy Brar network, which has been linked to several incidents of gang violence in northern India.

Investigation Continues

A heavy police force was deployed at the encounter site, and the area was sealed during the operation. Police said further investigation is underway to identify other suspects, establish the financial trail and uncover the full conspiracy behind the hospital firing case.
