Jalandhar IED Blast Case: Suspect Arrested from Delhi After Reconnaissance Ahead of Attack

In the case of the blast that occurred on May 5 outside the BSF Punjab Frontier Head Office in Jalandhar, a suspect has been caught in Delhi. The Delhi CIA is interrogating the accused. According to the investigation so far, it is claimed that the accused had come from Jalandhar by bus. The CIA is trying to find out during interrogation whether the accused carried out the explosion himself or if someone delivered it to him. It has been discovered that the accused had conducted reconnaissance for 2 days prior to the incident.

After carrying out the incident, the accused reached Jalandhar bus stand and took a bus to another city from there. Later, he went to Delhi and went into hiding. The police have not confirmed anything in this case either, but it is being reported that the accused has been brought into Jalandhar police custody. According to sources, the CIA staff and the teams of Jalandhar and Delhi police carried out a joint operation to catch the suspect. Nothing has been shared about the extent of his role in the blast.

It should be noted that on May 5, an explosion occurred outside the BSF headquarters in Jalandhar at 8 PM. In this, Gurpreet (21) from Garha, who had come to collect a parcel from the BSF, had his scooter burned. Initial investigation indicated suspicion of explosives in the scooter. Gurpreet was taken into custody and interrogated. The next night he was released. After the blast in Jalandhar, another explosion occurred in the Amritsar army area Khasa. No one has been caught in this case so far.

Reconnaissance was done around the BSF Chowk for 2 days

The Jalandhar police only got a clue from the CCTV footage after the explosion. However, the police had refused to share any information citing that the investigation could be affected, but it was confirmed that after the explosion, a young man was seen running towards the bus stand.

Similar information came up during the interrogation of the suspect caught in Delhi. The investigation revealed that the accused had conducted reconnaissance of the area for 2 days before carrying out the incident. The accused had fled immediately after the explosion. The police traced his location through the CCTV footage from the bus stand and the roads.

Police gave a clean chit to the young man who came to deliver the parcel

After the incident, the police had taken the owner of the damaged scooter, Gurpreet, into custody for questioning. Gurpreet was released the next day. Gurpreet had told the police that he had only come there to collect the parcel. During this time, the explosion occurred. After investigating the young man’s activities and statement, the police gave him a clean chit.

Three-layer checking in all cantonments of Punjab

In Punjab, which shares a border of 500 and a half kilometers, after sudden explosions, checks on civilian entry have been tightened in all cantonments. Entry is being allowed in all cantonment areas, including Jalandhar and Pathankot, only after three-layer checking. This includes checking at three levels: army personnel, Punjab police, and defense police.

A large part of Jalandhar Cantonment is civilian. Areas like Sansarpur, Kukkad Pind, and Dhogri are crossed through the cantonment. Therefore, civilian checking has been tightened here. Every vehicle is being allowed entry after checking. Along with this, entry without an identity card is banned.
